Abbasi, Rez

Abbasi, Rez , guitarist, composer, educator; b. Karachi, Pakistan, 27 August 1965. He was exposed to the musics of the sub-continent at an early age through his family's more than casual involvement; removed at four to the driving surf sounds of the So. California beach scene; schooled at U.S.C. and the Manhattan School of Music, a pilgrimage in India under the tutorial of master percussionist, Alla Rakha.

His recordings, which feature the likes of Peter Erskine, Billy Drewes, Dave Liebman, Marc Johnson, Michael Formanek, Gary Thomas, Tim Hagans, Tony Malaby, are available through www.reztone.com. Rez has performed through out the world with among others, Ruth Brown, Billy Hart, Victor Lewis, Barre Phillips, D.D. Jackson, Gary Thomas, Rick Margitza, Dave Phillips, Christian Howes and Marc Mommaas. As well as leading his own projects from his base in New York, Rez frequently performs and records as a sideman.
