Aula, Giacomo

Aula, Giacomo , pianist and composer; b. Lagonegro (Potenza, South Italy), 28 March 1967. He studied, starting in June 1982, at the Conservatorio E. Duni; and then, beginning in July 1984, at the Conservatorio G. Da Venosa. His studies continued, from 1986 to 1994, at the Politecnico di Torino and from 1993 to 1996 at Siena Jazz. He studied classical musc with Maria Martino, then he studied Afro-American music in Torino and especially at Siena Jazz between October 1994 and July 1997 where he took three qualifications as jazz musician, jazz orchestra musician and musicology in courses with Enrico Rava, Franco D'Andrea, Bruno Tommaso, Marcello Piras and Stefano Zenni. In 1994 Aula took a degree in electronic engineering at Politecnico di Torino, studying especially electroacoustics and the location power of human hearing.

He took part as trio concert in the Philip Morris Jazz In Town '97, Reutlingen Jazztage '98, Estate Musicale Sorrentina '99, Vicenza Jazz 2000, Berlinale Film Festival 2001, Brianza Open '02, Bergamo Jazz '03. He plays in several groups, piano solo, trio, and Orchestra Nazionale Giovanile Italiana with which he toured for three years with Gianluigi Trovesi (cl), Bruno Tommaso (dir, arr), Rudy Migliardi (tbn), Palle Danielsson (b), Peter Erskine (dr) and James Newton (fl, dir). He worked with Eliot Zigmund, James Newton, Larry Schneider, Douglas Little, Gianni Basso, Enrico Rava, Todd Horton, Peter Erskine, John Taylor, Palle Danielsson, Lorenzo Petrocca, Lee Konitz. He taught piano in Torino 1993-95, at the Musicae Fabri School in Montiglio since 1996, in the Jazznet course in Siena Jazz since 1997 and from 1999 to 2004 at Jazzschule Berlin. He has lived in Torino from 1986 to 1998 and in Berlin from 1999 to the present.
