Correa, Christine (Isobel)

Correa, Christine (Isobel), vocalist b. Bombay, India, 8 July 1955.  Her father Micky Correa (b. 1914) is a dance band leader currently residing in Bombay, India.

he moved to Boston, MA in 1979 to attend the New England Conservatory of Music and then to Brooklyn NY in 1993.  Studied in Boston with Ran Blake and Gerry Martin.  She was an Artist in Residence at Pop/Jazz Conservatory and Sibelius Conservatory in Helsinki Finland. She's director of Maine Jazz Camp..a summer jazz camp held in Farmington Maine. 

She's done performances at Jazz Yatra (Bombay), SIGMA (Bordeaux), Tampere Biennale (Finland).  She appeared at the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts in Washington, DC, featured soloist at National Center of Performing Arts in Bombay, India and National Opera House in Helsinki Finland.  She's done performances and recordings with Steve Lacy, Ran Blake, John Laporta, Jeanne Lee among others. Awards include National Endowment for the Arts grant. 

She's currently performing original music by Frank Carlberg that is choreographed by the New York based Battery Dance Company.  These performances have taken place in Poland, Finland, India and the U.S. She's married to pianist/composer Frank Carlberg.  Her children are Priya Carlberg (b 1996) and Rahul (b. 1999).
