Edwards, Calvin

Edwards, Calvin, jazz guitarist, songwriter, producer; b. Kings Mountain, N.C., 14 May 1957. At the age of six he began to play the guitar. His father, a well-known songwriter, vocalist and guitarist on the gospel scene, helped to shape his carrier. While in high school, Edwards won many talent shows.  At age 17, he joined a gospel group for a number of years, after which he moved to Los Angeles playing in his brother band, the Jett Edwards Band, recording two albums together. Also he did recording with Bobby Womack family.

He currently performs all over Asia and the USA with his band the Calvin Edwards Group. He is also the president of Chasity (sic) Music, which has booked Mark Whitfield, Tuck & Patti, Kei Akagi, Benny Maupin, Hidefumi Toki, Javon Jackson, Ali Jackson,Michael Wolff, and others. He was a producer for a jazz festival in his hometown of Kings Mountain NC on Oct. 12, 2002.

He recorded with Bennie Maupin in Okinawa Japan on Nov.25th 2002, live at Club Rhapsody.
