Haas, Jeff, pianist and composer; b. Detroit, MI, 9 May 1949. Began classical studies at age 5 with father, Karl, who was a professional classical pianist as well as creator and host of the nationally syndicated radio show, Adventures in Good Music.
Haas Has completed four major commissioned projects including the 300th anniversary of the city of Detroit and the susquicentennial of the Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit. He was awarded a 2004 New Works: Creation and Presentation Grant from Chamber Music America. Recorded three national releases with regular quintet which includes trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, multi-instrumentalist Rob Smith, bassist Chuck Hall and drummer Alex Trajano and special guest Israeli violinist Miri Ben-Ari - L'Dor VaDor.With over 90 original compositions, Haas combines the vibe of the Jewish, African American and European musical traditions with mainstream jazz.
The Jeff Haas Quintet performs in performing arts centers, festivals and clubs, colleges and universities, community centers, synagogues, churches and schools throughout the Midwest and East Coast. Haas & Friends also conduct diversity workshops for K-12 schools wherever they perform focusing on the use of music to promote more awareness, understanding and tolerance of people from different cultures, races and backgrounds.
