Ito, Kimiko
Ito, Kimiko, singer, b. Shodo-shima, Kagawa, Japan, 7 July 1946.
A student of painting in school, she made her debt in 1974 with vocalist Yoshiko Goto. Ito went on to perform with Yuzuru Sera, Eiji Kitamura, and George Otsuka, before beginning a solo recital and recording career in the early eighties. She performed at the New York club Settings for a month in 1984, and her 1986 album For Lovers Only is said to be the first by a Japanese vocalist to be marketed in the US. She continues to perform in a popular style at concerts and live houses.
