Kaufman, Robert (Charles)
Kaufman, Robert (Charles), drummer, educator; b. 26 September 1946. His mother, Elizabeth D'aniello, and father, Edwin Kaufman (b. 8/4/1913), were both born in New Haven CT. His mother is deceased. Robert is married to Cecile Kaufman and their son Owen Tyrone Kaufman was born March 2nd 1999. Owen plays drums, piano and has a great ear. His favorite piano player is McCoy Tyner and favorite album is McCoy Plays Ellington.
Robert's teachers include Jimmy Staveris, Charlie Smith, Fred Buda, and Alan Dawson.
He's performed with Bill Frisell, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mike Stern, Mick Goodrick, John Abercrombie, Jerry Bergonzi, Frank Wess, Dave Liebman, Sal Nistico, Junior Cook, Rickie Ford, George Garzone, Steve Grossman, Joe Lovano, John Handy, Tom Herrell, Chuck Mangione, Hal Crook, Mose Allison, Wilber Ware, Charles Fambro, Herbie Lewis, Miroslav Vitous, Harvie Swartz, George Cables, Kenny Kirkland, Jackie Byard, JoAnne Brackeen, Art Lande, Larry Goldings, Andy Lavern, and James Williams.
He's had clinics at the Continuing Summer Jazz Improv Workshop with Jerry Bergonzi, Allan Chase, Jeff Galindo, and Bruce Gertz at the Acton Jazz Cafe and Lexington High School.
