Mann, Geoff (Geoffrey David)
Mann, Geoff (Geoffrey David), drums and percussion, mandolin, cornet; b. New York City, 16 June 1975. His parents are Herbert Jay Mann, musician, b.1930, Brooklyn, and Theresa Jan Mann, b.1945, Powder Springs, GA.
Geoff started playing drums at the age of 9. While getting his BFA in Jazz Performance and Composition at the New School for Social Research (1993-97), he studied with such teachers as Andrew Cyrille, Charli Persip, Michael Carvin, Arnie Lawrence and Reggie Workman. Over the years, he's worked with Daniel Carter, Roy Campbell, Susie Ibarra, Romero Lubambo and Cyro Baptista. He currently plays drums, mandolin, and cornet with Alto Saxophonist Ori Kaplan in many of his projects including his Shaat'nez Band. He also plays with trombone great Steve Swell, trumpeter Jordan Mclean's Fire of Space, vocalistCarol Lipnik's band Spookarama, saxophonist Erik Lawrence's Eflat 3rio, saxophonist Evan Schwam, and with father, flutist Herbie Mann in his band Sona Terra.
