McAll, Barney (Barnaby Johnathon)

McAll, Barney (Barnaby Johnathon), pianist; b. Melbourne, Australian, 1966. His father, Jack McAll, was born in South Shields, England, 1926 and his mother, Yvonne McAll, was born in Glen Waverly Victoria, Australia, 1932. He has three sisters, Kim, Phillipa (a jazz vocalist) and Sophie, and two brothers, John (also and jazz pianist) and Julian.

McAll has studied jazz piano with Paul Grabowsky  Mulgrew Miller, Aydin Essen, Charlie Banacos, Walter Bishop Jr, The Hon. Barry Harris, Larry Goldings, and Bruce Barth. He studied in Cuba with pianists Chucho Valdez and Ramon Valle. He received bachelor of music from The Victorian College of the Arts. He's performed or recorded with Dewey Redman, Matt Wilson, Billy Kilson, Charlie Hunter, Peter Apfelbaum, Gary Bartz Quartet,The Billy Harper quintet, Kenny Garrett, Eddie Henderson, Louis Hayes, Gerry Gonzales, Fred Wesley, N'dea Davenport, Andy Bey, Bobby Sanabria, Josh Roseman, Ben Monder, The Groove Collective, Rodney Holmes, David Binney, Jimmy Cobb, Vincent Herring, Dave Gilmore, Jim Black, Chris Speed, Reggie Washington, Ben Perowsky, Scott Colly, Adam Rogers, Ben Monder, Billy Harper, Jeff Ballard, Bernie Worrell, Stefon Harris, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joey Baron, Ben Perowsky, Kenny Wolleson and TonyScherr. He currently performs with the Gary Bartz Quartet, Fred Wesley and The JBs, Billy Harper sextet, Gary Bartz NTU Troop 2000, The Groove Collective, Dewey Redman Quartet, Ground Spike-Collaborative ensemble with Italian bassist Gian Luca Renzi, Barney McAll Sextet, a trio with Rufus Cappadocia and Tabla player Badal Roy and Kurt Rosenwinkle's "Heartcore band."
