Miller, Jim (James E.)

Miller, Jim (James E.), acoustic and electric bass; b. Hershey, PA, 7 September 1947.

In 1972 he and Thomas Strohman founded the band Third Stream which has performed throughout the mid Atlantic region. Jim studied double bass with Dr. Art Davis during the 1980's in New York .He is currently the instructor of bass at Lebanon Valley College of Pennsylvania in Annville, Pennsylvania. Jim was the winner "Bassist of the Year" three consecutive years in TV Host Magazine. Through the years he has produced and taught clinics on "Jazz History", "Emotions In Music", "Jazz Improvisation", "Math and Music" and "Bass Master Classes". In addition to performing with Third Stream Jim was a guest soloist with Millersville University Jazz Band, Bellport High School Jazz Band in Long Island, New York and Lebanon Valley College Jazz Band He has performed in concert and clinics with Herb Ellis, Phil Wilson, Cal Collins, Slide Hampton, Buddy DeFranco, Jimmy Heath, Dave Schnitter, Barry Harris, Barney Kessel, Art Taylor, John Blake, Al Grey, Valery Ponomarev and others.
