Negri, Stefano

Negri, Stefano, tenor sax and composer; b. Florence, Italy, 20 August 1963. He still lives and works in Florence.

He studied classical clarinet from 1973 until1978 with Professor Zambelli followed by jazz studies on saxophone completing stages with D, Murray, B. Pierce, D. Liebman and J, Bergonzi amongst others. He's the son of Luciano Negi and Giulia Mariotti. His brother Massimiliano is an accomplished guitarist. Negri is involved in numerous collaborations with various musicians including Stefano Bollani, Piero Borri, Massimo Ciolli, Alessandro Galati, Valerio Morelli, Riccardo Onori, Walter Paoli, Karl Potter, Stefania Scarinzi, Giancarlo Sicuteri,  Nicola Vernuccio, Gianni Zei and many others. He has participated in many recording sessions as "sideman" up until 1977 and also appeared on television and radio transmissions both local and national, (RAI 3, Canale5, Italia1, Video Music). In the area of light music he has collaborated with the band "Dirotta su Cuba" recording with them their first album as well as collaborating with Irene Grande, "I Righeira" and others. He currently plays with various Florentine formations as well as participating in the project "On the Brink" quartet with co-leader Valerio Morelli and the imminent release of their first album. The group is concentrated in the area of the "new hard bop" and includes in its repertoire original pieces as well as pieces by Jerry Bergonzi and other composers.
