Okoshi, Tiger (Toru)

Okoshi, Tiger (Toru), trumpeter, synthesizer player; b. Ashita, Japan, 21 March 1950. 

Started learning trumpet at age 11, self-taught.  Interested in jazz from his days at Kansai University.  After studying some with Terumasa Hino and Sadao Watanabe he started leading his own groups at Pit Inn and Taro in 1971.  Attended Berklee and became an instructor there after graduation. Toured with Buddy Rich in 1976.  Led Tiger's Baku for several years and recorded a Louis Armstrong tribute in early 1990s.
