Rissmiller, Gary (Robert)

Rissmiller, Gary (Robert), drums; b. Bethlehem, PA, 8 March 1955.

Rissmiller has been playing drums for over 32 years. He has studied with Joe Morello of the famous Dave Brubeck Quartet and has performed with jazz greats such as Phil Woods, Eric Kloss, Tom Harrell, Randy Brecker, Don Patterson, Tim Hagens, Brian Lynch, Dave Liebman, Bob Dorough, Urbie Green, Jessie Green, Chris Potter, George Young, Charles Fambrough, and with jazz greats at the July Jazz Getaway at Moravian College featuring Stanley Turrantine, Bobby Watson, and Clark Terry. He has also performed with Bill Warfield, Bill Watress, Rob Stoneback and his big band. He has also opened for Lionel Hampton, Cab Calloway, Joe Henderson, and Spyro Gyra. Gary has appeared with various jazz combos, including his own at the Delaware Water Gap celebration of the arts, the Central Pennsylvania Mellon Jazz Festival, the Wichita, Kansas Jazz Festival, Bethlehem's Musikfest, Allentown's Mayfair, and the Scranton PA Jazz Festival. Gary has performed in many known jazz venues on the East Coast such as: The Village Gate (New York City), The Cutting Room (NYC), The Deerhead Inn (Delaware Water Gap), Ortlieb's Jazz Haus (Phila.), Chris's (Phila.), Deetrick's (Phila.), The Four Seasons Hotel (Phila), and the Five Spot (Phila). Gary has also been teaching at various colleges in the Lehigh Valley area (Muhlenberg College, Lehigh University, and Lafayette College) and also teaches privately at Dave Phillips Music (Allentown, Pa). Gary Rissmiller performs regularly with a variety of jazz trios, quartets, quintets, and big bands.
