Ruggieri, Vinnie (Vincent Francis)
Ruggieri, Vinnie (Vincent Francis), piano; b. Staten Istland, NY, 23 October 1946. His father's name was Minotti Ruggieri. He was born 4/13/23 in Worchester, MA. He died in 1987. His mother was born Catherine Pitcherelli 11/10/25. She died in 1968. His dad was an amateur musician playing piano and harmonica. He has one sister, Catherine Foster, born 4/12/49 in Staten Island. She also plays piano (not professionally).
The only jazz pianist that Ruggieri took lessons from was Jaki Byard in 1973. He was a music major at The College of Staten Island. Leader on one self produced CD, "Soul Eyes." This was a trio date with Bill Moring on bass and Tim Horner on drums. The only articles written about him are reviews of the CD in Jazz Improv and Cadence magazines. He's worked as a leader and a sideman in the New York City area for the last 30 years. As a sideman, he worked in the 70's with bassist Vinnie Burke alongside feature players Phil Woods, Sal Nestico, Turk Mauro, Thad Jones, Joe Newman, Grachan Moncur, and Eddie Gladden. In the 80's he worked with saxophonist Billy Mitchell. Over the last twenty years, he's been a member of the Staten Island Chamber Players Jazz Quartet. They have done performances and lecture demonstrations in the Staten Island public school system.
