Savolainen, Jarmo (Tapio)
Savolainen, Jarmo (Tapio), composer, keyboards; b. Iisalmi, Finland, 24 May 1961. He is married to Helena Haaranen. His daughter is Selma Savolainen. He went to Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA, for Jazz and composition studies.
Savolainen has been a member of various groups including Finnforest and Blue Train. He formed own nine-piece ensemble and quartet. He played duos with Make Lievonen, 1988; He played with Seppo Kantonen, 1990. He appeared at major jazz-festivals world-wide, including Jukkis Uotila Quintet, Paris, 1984; EBU Big BandPori-Jazz, 1985; KalottJazz and Blues Festival, 1995; and the UMO Jazz Orchestra, Berliner JazzTage, 1999. He has made television appearances on many European national networks. He's composed music for big bands, theatre and films.
