Schmidt, Winfried

Schmidt, Winfried, clarinet;

Schmidt is the leader of the Jazzmo Dixie Gang. The other members are Berkemer, Joachim (tp, c), Storz, Hans (tp), Hepting, Hans-Joachim (bj, g, voc), Bock, Hans-Jurgen 'Mr. Woodpecker' (p), Weiss, Hans-Joachim (b), and Menne, Bernd (dr). In the year 1978 the band was founded in Stuttgart (Germany) and has since performed all over Germany. Schmidt and Hans-Joachim Hepting are still remaining from the original members. The repertoire reaches from Blues and Dixieland - seasoned with a firm shot of Shuffle, Boogie-Woogie and Charleston - up to the Swing of the Thirties. They perform pieces by Nick La Rocca, King Oliver, Clarence Williams, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Tommy Dorsey. The pieces get well-rehearsed under Hans-Jurgen Bock's musical management (he joined in 1995). Jazzmo Dixie Gang is a member of the Jazz Society Stuttgart and performed many years regularly in the widely known Dixieland Hall in Stuttgart (Germany). Jazzmo was repeatedly engaged on different ship cruises and is present on many German jazz festivals, as in Dresden (2002) or Kempten (2003).

Good Morning Blues (1991); Saturday Night (1997); Colors Of Jazz (2000); Various artists: Dixieland Jazz-Hall Festival (1992), Von New-Orleans nach Stuttgart (1997), Lets Go Dixie (2002)
