Severini, Rob (Roberto)

Severini, Rob (Roberto), double bass, producer, composer; b. Rome, Italy, 19 August 1952. He lived in Rome till the age of 14. Then grew up in Melbourne, Australia. His father is Aurelio Severini (born Rome-Italy 25 Sep 1927). His mother was Mirella Severini (born in Rome-Italy 8 Feb 1931, died Melbourne 24 Oct 1998). His siblings are Franca Severini (born in Rome, 6th June 1960) and George Severini (born in Melbourne 25 May 1969).

Severini got an "Australian Music Associate Diploma-A.mus.A." in Classical Double bass at the Victorian College of the Arts-VCA in the year 1982. Preceded to study arranging by correspondence with the Berkley College in the early 70s, studied double bass in Melbourne with Marion Brajer-Croatian born bassist in the 70s. Studied jazz with Jamie Aebersold, Rufus Reid, Hal Galper, Ed Soph, Dr. David Baker in 80-81-82. In 1982, Rob commenced a teaching career, holding posts with Caulfield Grammer-1996, De La Salle College-1984 and Avila College-1990, Emmaus College-1982, Mater Christie College-1987, where he taught Double Bass, Electric Bass, Computer Music Programming, Classical & Electric Guitar, and Music Theory, as well as holding the chair of Stage Band conductor. In the classical arena, he accepted invitations to perform with the New Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Whitehorse Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne University String Orchestra and the Frankston Symphony Orchestra. 1985 witnessed the commencement of the long-standing and close friendship and collaboration with producer Adam Dion. At first as Adam's personal arranger, then as musical director for Casino's variety productions. Some of the show productions include Aqueus-1998 (Reef Casino-Cairns), The Hidden Palace-2001 (Conrad Jupiters Casino-Gold Coast), Disco Inferno-1998 (Dragon Fly Theatre Cabaret-Melbourne), and Under the sea-1997 (Crown Casino-Melbourne), Tempo Rouge - 2005 (Conrad Jupiters Casino-Gold Coast).

He married Lisa Bradley 28th May 1977 (Divorced). His children are Jordan Bradley (born Melbourne 1st June 1979 Melbourne), Courtney Louise (born Melbourne 27th Jan 1981, a musician/pianist), Braden Robert (born in Melbourne 31st Aug 1984 - died in Melbourne 5th November 2004) and Madeline Francis (born Melbourne 13th June 1991). Remarried to Nadia Morando (singer) 18th March 2007, stepson Nayson Murgo.

Rob Severini is also the creator and Artistic Director of the Italian Jazz Festival-Melbourne, that commenced its activity in 2003 with the financial support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne.
