Siegmeth, Hugo

Siegmeth, Hugo, sax, clarinet, flute, composer; b. Arad, Romania, 1970. Settled from Romania to Germany with parents Friedrich and Maria Siegmeth, sister Heide and brother Heiner.

Siegmeth only lived the first six years of his life in Romania, but they had a great influence on him and his music. Studied jazz saxophone at Richard-Strauss Conservatory with Leszek Zadlo and Thomas Zoller (arrangement). Hugo has worked as composer as well as arranger in various jazz bands. He has performed in Germany, Austria, France and USA, with Clark Terry, Claudio Roditi, Bobby Shew, Al Percino and Peter Herbholzheimer. Many years of experience in big bands, amongst these the Summit Jazz Orchestra, the Harald Rueschenbaum Orchestra, the Dusko-Goikovich Big Band and The Sunday Night Orchestra. Since 1999 Member of the Avantgarde Munich Composers and Improvisors Ensemble which works in close collaboration with London bassist and composer Barry Guy.In the summer of 1999, he did concerts at the Festival of Jazz in Montreux, with Munich sextet, Contrast. In autumn 2000, he did touring Southern Germany with trumpeter Bobby Shew. Since 2001, he's a member of the Zollsound Chamber Orchestra. He played the opening concert at "Internationale Jazztage Vilshofen" (International days of jazz at Vilshofen) with the group Sir Conways Connection.
