Yamamoto, Hozan

Yamamoto, Hozan, shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute), b. Kyoto, Japan, 6 October 1937.  After performing at a world music fest in Paris in 1958, he performed all over the world.  He has performed with Tony Scott, Helen Merrill, Pierre Rampal, Ravi Shankar, and various symphony orchestras.  He has performed off and on in jazz contexts, first with Hara Nobuo's Sharps and Flats at Newport in 1967.
